We are delighted and honoured to welcome Dr. Gareth Sparham back as a guest teacher this month on August 6 and 9.
Born in England and raised in Canada, Dr. Sparham attended McGill University and received a Ph.D in Asian Studies at UBC. A Buddhist monk from 1973 to 2001, studying at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics at Dharamsala, Dr. Sparham has written and translated a number of books including Khunu Lama’s ‘Vast as the Heavens, Deep as the Sea’ and Shantideva’s ‘The Guide to a Bodhisattva’s Way of Life’. He teaches Sanskrit and Tibetan language at the University of Michigan and many of us were fortunate enough to attend his teaching, with Gen.Ngawang Choklay, last year in Toronto.
Tonight's talk is about how our problems stem from a misunderstanding of the reality underlying our existence and how these situations exist. By understanding better, we cultivate wisdom, respond differently and enjoy life more.
